The week of April 14-17 I was in Austin attending the Texas Library Association's annual conference! I will attempt to condense the week into a single blog post :)
Tuesday - Tuesday was my first day there and the day I attended the second annual Tech Camp. Tech Camp is the place to be for librarians who want to learn more about using technology in new and innovative ways at school. The major theme of Tech Camp this year was don't be afraid to fail! It will make you stronger! Wednesday - Wednesday was the official opening of TLA 15. I got lots of free books at the opening of the exhibit hall! I have given many away to students and teachers already! Thursday - Thursday's highlights include an awesome Googlepalooza from the librarians in Round Rock ISD. I learned lots of Google tricks! Thursday was also the Bluebonnet Award Luncheon which is always a huge highlight of TLA! The winning book this year was The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Daywalt and illustrated by Oliver Jeffers. Both were on hand and made heartwarming speeches about how librarians have influenced their careers. Friday - On Friday I attended two sessions that introduced new books of interest for kids and tweens! I will order some really awesome books thanks to these two sessions! As always, TLA is the best place to connect in person with other librarians from across the state! I always learn so many new things. I also love that I can learn from sessions I was not able to attend thanks to Google Docs and Twitter! I am so thankful to have had the opportunity to attend and can't wait for next year! |
